Namebee privacy policy

Last updated October 31, 2026

Namebee helps you and the people you invite pick a baby name together. It is built so that your family's choices stay with your family. Namebee is made by Nathan Hayes ("we", "us").

The short version

What Namebee stores, and where

Namebee saves the following in your private iCloud database, using Apple's CloudKit:

Your settings and filters (such as gender, origins and your state or country) are kept on your iPhone. A small summary is shared with the Namebee widget on the same phone so it can show names on your home screen.

Sharing with your hive

When you invite someone to a hive, Namebee uses Apple's iCloud sharing. The people you invite, and who accept, can see the hive's contents, including the display names, photos, votes, notes and comments of everyone in it. You choose who to invite, and the hive's owner can remove people at any time.

Name list updates

Namebee downloads updated name lists from Apple's CloudKit public database. This is a download only. Nothing about you or your choices is sent with it.

Your region

Namebee uses the state or country you pick, or your iPhone's region setting, to show names that are common where you live first. This happens on your phone. Namebee doesn't ask for or use your location.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Namebee tells the people in your hive when you send a message or a nudge, when you match on a name, and when you join their hive. To do that, your phone leaves a tiny note in Namebee's public iCloud database (Apple's CloudKit) for each of them, holding only your first name, the kind of alert, and the random ID that Namebee made for the person it's for. Apple then shows the alert on their phone. The note never includes the message, the baby name or anything else you wrote. Your phone deletes your notes once they're a day old, the next time you send one, and Delete my data removes them too. We don't send marketing messages.

Purchases

The Hive Pass and tips are bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles payment, and we never see your payment details. We receive only Apple's standard sales reports, which don't identify you.

Bug reports

To find and fix problems, Namebee sends anonymous bug reports to Namebee's public iCloud database (Apple's CloudKit). A report holds the app version, iOS version and iPhone model, when the app froze and for how long, which part of the app was busy, save or iCloud sync errors (as error codes), when your phone last synced, and summaries of crash and hang reports from Apple's MetricKit. It's grouped by a random ID made on your phone. It never includes your name, iCloud identity, baby names, votes, notes, messages or photos, and it isn't used for advertising or tracking. You can turn it off at any time in Me, Settings, Share bug reports. If you've turned on "Share with App Developers" in your iPhone's settings, Apple may also give us anonymous crash reports.

Children

Namebee is meant for expecting parents and their families and friends. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Baby and sibling names you enter stay in your iCloud.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects what Namebee collects, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect.
